Ms. Melissa J. Porter has helped Select expand from $125 million in revenues to more than $2 billion since joining the company in 1995, when Select acquired her privately held office staffing company in Upland, California. Melissa quickly found out that her goals and aspirations were in sync with those of Select’s. Years later, she happily remains onboard and has helped to build a company larger than anyone at Select even dreamed about a decade ago.
Melissa’s management style can best be described as direct, with sales and gross revenues as the true indicators of performance from her staff. That said, Melissa is committed to providing all the training, mentoring, and support her sales force needs to succeed.
Much of Melissa’s time is spent traveling across the nation to gain new business and build existing relationships and operational efficiencies with large on-site accounts. She is also responsible for helping to ensure that Select anticipates and meets client needs and remains truly customer focused.
During Select’s many acquisitions, Melissa works as a strategic team leader responsible for ensuring rapid integration, as well as customer satisfaction and retention within the acquired company; she has personally spearheaded several buyouts. A member of the company’s Executive Committee, she also participates in Select’s franchise operations and is involved in developing new sales and coordinating pricing structures.
In addition to her sales activities, Melissa oversees the company’s Client Data Solutions department. This includes managing a team of Technical Support Representatives and Implementation Specialists and controlling a comprehensive worksite management system ranging from training, time & attendance installations and payroll processing.
Melissa began her career at Volt Temporary Services as a Sales Specialist. In 1990, she launched her own temporary staffing company. After joining Select as Regional Manager of the Upland and San Bernardino offices, she was promoted to Vice President of Sales and then Chief Sales Officer. Her commitment today is to build Select’s revenues, and she sees no reason why the company can’t continue its aggressive growth.
Away from her job, Melissa spends as much time as she can with her husband and two children, attending school activities and sporting events. During a rare free moment, she enjoys playing a round or two of golf.
Ms. Porter received her B.A. in Psychology from Syracuse University in Upstate New York.
