Our staffing agency is currently seeking an experienced Quality & Food Safety (QFS) Technical Services Supervisor for a temp-to-hire opportunity with a leading manufacturer of spices, seasonings, and dehydrated ingredients in Oxnard, CA.
Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, this role will support food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and commercialization projects while ensuring new and existing products are launched efficiently and in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and possess strong technical expertise in spices, seasonings, food safety systems, and risk assessment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist the Senior Technical Manager in conducting food safety and quality reviews of ingredients, finished products, suppliers, and manufacturing processes.
- Lead and support research projects involving food safety, quality improvements, shelf-life extension, ingredient functionality, and regulatory changes.
- Provide technical oversight for spice and seasoning product development and ingredient evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, Preventive Controls, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve ingredient, customer, and finished product specifications.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of HACCP, FSMA, Preventive Controls, and GFSI programs.
- Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) from co-manufacturing facilities and communicate findings to management.
- Interpret customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements while preparing technical documentation.
- Support allergen control programs, including allergen matrix reviews and product register updates.
- Investigate supplier-related complaints, customer concerns, and third-party laboratory discrepancies.
- Prepare weekly complaint summaries and reports.
- Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel.
- Participate in commercialization and stage-gate meetings, providing technical updates and project support.
- Support customer audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- 5-7 years of experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Technical Services, or a related food manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of spices, seasoning blends, dehydrated ingredients, and food safety systems.
- HACCP and FSMA training.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to assess food safety and quality risks throughout the supply chain.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or a related field.
- FSVP Training.
- Supervisory experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience with GFSI-certified food safety programs.
