Location: Independence, MO
Pay: $20/hr plus shift differential
Job Summary
We are seeking motivated, safety-conscious Sit-Down Forklift Operators to join our team for the upcoming peak season. In this fast-paced, high-volume role, you will operate sit-down industrial forklifts to handle increased inbound and outbound shipments, pick customer orders, and manage seasonal inventory inside our unique subterranean cave facility. This temporary position offers excellent earning potential and an opportunity to gain experience in a highly specialized logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a sit-down counterbalanced forklift to transport, stack, and unstack heavy materials and pallets throughout the cave warehouse racks and staging zones.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, trailers, and shipping containers efficiently to meet demanding peak-season shipping deadlines.
- Pull, verify, and stage seasonal customer orders accurately using pick sheets, RF scanners, or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Move raw or finished goods rapidly between bulk storage areas and loading docks to prevent bottlenecks.
- Navigate narrow underground passages, low-clearance zones, and specialized lighting conditions with heightened spatial awareness during high-traffic shifts.
- Perform mandatory pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections on your sit-down forklift and report any mechanical issues immediately.
- Keep the underground work area, aisles, and charging stations clean, dry, and free of debris while strictly adhering to OSHA and underground safety protocols.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 2+ years of recent experience operating a sit-down counterbalanced forklift in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution center.
- Valid forklift operator certification or ability to pass employer-led OSHA safety evaluation prior to operating equipment.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work overtime, weekends, or extended shifts as required by peak season demand.
- Ability to sit, twist, and bend for extended shifts, and manually lift up to 50 lbs when required.
- Ability to work in a unique subterranean cave environment featuring consistent ambient rock temperatures, artificial lighting, and high activity levels.
- Tech & Math Skills: Basic proficiency with RF scanners, inventory count sheets, and simple math (addition, subtraction, and quantity verification).
