Maintenance Mechanic – 2nd Shift (Temp-to-Hire)

Location: Oxnard
Shift: 2nd Shift (Monday–Saturday)

  • Hours: 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM
    Pay: $31/hour
    Employment Type: Temporary-to-Hire Opportunity

Reports To: Maintenance Manager


Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic supports production operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, and repairing machinery and equipment. This role is essential to ensuring equipment reliability, production efficiency, and adherence to safety and food quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform repairs, equipment tuning, and assigned maintenance tasks
  • Complete preventive maintenance on production equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical (up to 480V, 3-phase), mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Interpret electrical drawings and technical schematics
  • Inspect machinery to detect malfunctions and prevent downtime

Installation & Fabrication

  • Assemble, fabricate, and install equipment per engineering standards
  • Fabricate parts within experience level as needed
  • Recommend improvements for safety, efficiency, and equipment performance

Production Support

  • Assist line leads with machine adjustments and repairs
  • Provide parts and technical support as needed
  • Support production to ensure schedules and output goals are met

Technical Expertise

  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs preferred
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and amp meters
  • Maintain strong knowledge of motors, drives, and electrical controls
  • Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards

Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Follow and enforce OSHA, GMP, and company safety policies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Report unsafe conditions and take corrective action
  • Adhere to food safety and quality standards
  • Account for all tools and parts after maintenance work

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with maintenance team members and outside vendors
  • Assist in training and supporting team members
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Additional Duties

  • Work in confined spaces when required
  • Report temporary repairs and ensure permanent follow-up
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience:

    • 3–5 years maintenance experience as a Mechanic or Electrician
    • Manufacturing experience required; food processing preferred
  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong troubleshooting ability (electrical & mechanical)
    • Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints
    • Hands-on experience with PLCs, motors, and control systems
    • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Preferred:

    • 2–5 years of industrial or commercial electrical experience
